Mengutip buku How To Speak English Easy, Fast, and Fun oleh Hani Sutrisno, pola dasar atau rumus simple present tense yang digunakan adalah sebagai berikut:
- Kalimat positif (+) Subjek + Verb1 (-s/-es)+ Objek
- Kalimat negatif (-) Subjek + Do/Does + not + Verb1 + Objek
- Kalimat tanya (?) Do/Does + Subjek + Verb1 + Objek?
Syarat dalam simple present tense yaitu do dipakai untuk I, you, we, dan they, sedangkan does dipakai untuk kata ganti he, she, it, dan nama orang.
Perlu diketahui, dalam simple present tense terdapat kata kerja atau verb yang fungsinya sebagai predikat dalam sebuah kalimat. Kata kerja tersebut memiliki peran untuk membentuk tense.
Pada kata kerja atau verb, dibubuhkan akhiran -s atau -es pada kalimat simple present tense. Akhiran -s digunakan di verb berakhiran huruf vokal, sementara akhiran -es digunakan di verb berakhiran huruf konsonan.
Contoh Kalimat Simple Present
1. (+) She studies English everyday.
(-) She does not study English everyday.
(?) Do you study English everyday?
2. (+) She likes eating out.
(-) She doesn't like eating out.
(?) Does she like eating out?
3. (+) The children are naughty.
(-) The children aren't naughty.
(?) Are the children naughty?
4. (+) You get up at 05.00 o'clock.
(-) You do not get up at 05.00 o'clock.
(?) Do you get up at 05.00 o'clock?
5. (+) She makes kinds of cookies.
(-) Kinds of cookies are made by her.
(?) Does she makes cookies by herself?
6. (+) Retno loves pizza.
(-) Retno doesn't love pizza.
(?) Does Retno love pizza?
7. (+) Ms. Yuli travels during school holiday.
(-) Ms. Yuli doesn't travel during school holiday.
(?) Does Ms. Yuli travel during school holiday?
9. (+) Hamsters run all night.
(-) Cats don't run all night.

10. (+) Mayong practices taekwondo every Saturday.
